catching the tongue notch at each end
of pocket opening. Continue to stitch
along the folded edge of the front
pocket as close as possible to the
piping seam to complete the pocket.

k. The pocket opening may be cut and
piped with the use of an approved
automatic type sewing machine
specifically designed to position the
component parts, cut the opening,
stitch and form the piped edges in one
operation.
l. In the finished coat, the width of
the pocket opening shall be 5-3/4 +
1/4 inches.
26 Bind facings.
Finished appearance. The binding
shall be uniformly stitched and shall
not be tight or full causing puckers,
gathers, or pleats. The basic
material and edges of binding shall be
securely caught in the stitching. The
outside raw edge only of the binding
shall be turned under and caught in
the stitching.
a. Bind the raw back edge of the

facing with 3/4 to 7/8 inch wide bias
binding, turning under the outside raw
edge of binding only, and catching the
turned under portion in the stitching
1/16 inch from the inner folded edge.
The binding shall extend from the
bottom edge of facing to not less than
1 inch above bottom finished edge of
lining.
