3.2.5 Sweatband. The artificial leather for the sweatband shall be 1-1/4 + 1/8 inches wide, and dyed
a brown shade, and shall be in accordance with A-A-59517.
3.2.6 Front stay. The front stay shall be made of the following components and shall meet all the
requirements when tested as specified in 4.3.2.
3.2.6.1 Twin wire tape. The twin wire tape shall be a commercial type, measuring 1 + 1/8 inches
wide. The steel wire shall be hard rolled, cold finished carbon steel, galvanized, flat wire and shall be
0.016 + 0.001 inch thick by 0.90 + 0.004 inch wide.
3.2.6.2 Plastic. The plastic reinforcement shall be 0.020 + 0.002 inch thick, natural color, linear
polyethylene or polypropylene.
3.2.6.3 Stay cover and sweatband. The material for the stay cover and sweatband reinforcement
piece shall be a 5-harness warp sateen cloth, natural or bleached, weighing 7.4 + 0.8 ounces per square
yard. The reinforcement piece may be print or sheeting cloth.
3.2.7 Visor. The visor material shall be made of four layers: top ply, plumper paper, inner core and
bottom ply, laminated together with a suitable adhesive. The polished side of the top ply shall be
towards the top of the visor and the coated side of the bottom ply shall be towards the bottom of the
visor. The plumper paper shall be positioned between the top of ply and the inner core. Testing shall
be as specified in 4.3.2.
3.2.7.1 Top ply. The top ply shall be a vinyl film 0.020 inch thick conforming to
ASTM-D-1593. The film shall be black, and one side shall be pressed polished to produce a smooth
shiny pattern leather surface.
3.2.7.2 Plumper paper. The plumper paper shall be a high alpha cellulose wood pulp paper which
has been wet-web saturated with 10 to 15 percent by weighed chloroprene latex. The saturated paper
shall have a bone dry weight of 0.62 + 0.062 pounds per square yard and a thickness of 0.022 + 0.003
inch. Testing shall be as specified in 4.3.2.
3.2.7.3 Inner core. The inner core shall be made of fiberboard and shall be free of surface
lumps, indentations, ripples, ridges, and cracks and shall conform to the following physical requirements
when tested as specified in 4.3.2.
