1. Cutting.
a. Cut all parts in accordance with pattern
parts furnished which show directional lines,
size, and notches for proper assembly. Cut
crown piece, front piece, sides (quarters)
and outer band from one piece of material.
b. Cut outer band, with the length of the
band in the direction of the wales, 2 + 1/16
inches wide.
c. Cut plastic film for band binding 1 to 1-
1/4 inches wide. The cut binding may be
placed on rolls.
d. Cut elastic braid to finish snugly around
outside of outer band (see Operation 17).
e. Cut plastic for sweatband welt, 3/4 +
1/16 inch wide.

Replacement of defective components.
During the spreading, cutting and
manufacturing process, components having
material defects or damages that are
classified as defects in MIL-STD-657 and
4.4 shall be removed from production and
replaced with nondefective and properly
matched components.
