3.3.1 Identification-size label. The combination identification-size label shall conform to
Type I, Class 4 of MIL-DTL-32075. The label can be applied by either heat-sealable printing or
mildew-resistant printing. The label shall contain an item description, contract number, National Stock
Number (NSN), size, and contractor's name. The label shall show "good (3-4 rating)" colorfastness
to laundering when tested as specified in AATCC 61.
3.3.2 Cardboard instruction label. The printed cardboard instruction label shall be attached
by a string not less than 12 inches in length, looped through a hole approximately 1/4 inch in diameter,
and attached to one of the chin strap buttons. The label shall measure 4 inches by 3 inches. The text of
the label shall be as shown in Figure 4, printed on one side only in letters not less than 1/8 inch in height.
3.3.3 Label/tag. Each item shall be individually bar-coded with a paper tag for personal
clothing items. The paper tag shall be standard bleach sulfate having a basic weight of 100 pounds.
The paper used for the tags shall have a smooth finish to accept thermal transfer and direct printing. The
tags shall have a hole and should be attached to each item by a fastener. The bar-code shall be clearly
legible and readable by scanner. The bar coding element shall be a 13 digit national stock number
(NSN). There shall be a 12 digit universal product code (UPC) assigned for all NSN's by the
Government. The initial "UPC" must appear beneath the code. The bar codes for NSN and UPC shall
be a medium to high density and shall be located so that they are completely visible on the item when it
is folded and/or packaged as specified. The label's locations shall cause no damage to the item.
3.4 Designs. The cap shall consist of three sidepieces and a top crown piece with a plastic crown
protector. The cap shall have a removable grommet, plastic visor, adjustable chinstrap, and a
permanently attached front stay. The center front of cap shall be in vertical alignment.
3.5 Figures. Figures are furnished for information purposes only. If there are any inconsistencies
between the written specification and the figures, the written specification shall control.
3.6 Patterns. Standard patterns, which provide a 1/4 inch seam allowance for all seams except
where indicated in Table III, will be furnished by the Government. The Government patterns will not be
altered in any way and are to be used as a guide for cutting contractor's working patterns. The working
patterns will be identical to the Government patterns. Also, minor modifications are permitted where
necessary when using automatic equipment. These modifications shall not alter the dimensional,
serviceability, or appearance requirements.
3.6.1 List of pattern parts. The cap shall be cut from the specified material in accordance with
the pattern parts indicated in Table II.
