3.2 Material.
3.2.1 Basic material. The sweater shall be made of 2-ply worsted made of fleece or pulled sheep's wool or a combination of both not lower in grade than 54's US Standard. The use of reprocessed, reused, or waste wool is prohibited. The wool shall be mothproofed. The color shall match the standard sample under artificial daylight having a color temperature of 7500 K and shall be a good approximation to the standard sample under incandescent lamplight at
2800 K. The finished fabric shall contain not less than 95 percent wool based on the dry weight of the desized specimen. The sweater shall conform to the requirements listed in Table I.

1/ One determination shall be performed in each area of the sample unit, and the results reported as "pass" or "fail".
2/ When a standard sample is available, the sweater shall show colorfastness.
3/ The weight of the specimen shall be 4.0 + 0.1 grams and the rotating time shall be 30
minutes.
4/ Except that the soap solution shall contain 0.5 percent by weight, P-D-245, Detergent,
Laundry and Hand Dishwashing (Granular) Type II, in water hardness not over 50 parts
per million. The specimen must be dried after each of the laundering cycles.
5/ The test for colorfastness to alkaline solution shall also apply.
6/ Federal Standard 191.
3.2.2 Thread. The thread for seaming and stitching the sweater shall be cotton or nylon- covered polyester and the shade shall approximate the knit fabric.
